ABOUT THE WORKS
I want poetry to re-enter pop culture, not as profit driven advertising copy but as a contemporary mythologizing tool comparable to ancient verse-stories. I think a lot of contemporary poetry is written for the few people who read poetry all the time, and in my acquaintance are many upright citizens who respect poetry, but don't feel at all comfortable with it: they consider it abstract, disconnected, rhythmically challenging.

I make performance which fuses poetry, hip hop and jazz. I performed it at New York University in Women And Theater Program 2003; an article about this was published in Southerly (Performance). This year I performed in the UK as part of the Magdalena Project. I also write prose and plays. I always rely on rhythm and sound, but am busy at the moment constructing glamorous and quirky layouts reflecting my new engagement with the visual presentation of poems.

In 2004 I started writing and producing 'videopoems'? short digital video clips each of a poem I've written, presenting the words in different ways through live speech, written text, subtitles, music lyrics, voiceover, writing on the body. The longest so far is 4 minutes.  The clips are collaborative and an ongoing project; so far they've been exhibited in Sydney at Phatspace, Opera House Studio, Cockatoo Island Festival, Space 3, The Salon, Caught Short, The Chocolate Factory and Hopetoun Hotel. The following images are taken from these moving works, or of performances of them in conjunction with live artists.

Artists featured include Sean Gaji, Rowena Hall, Anand Kumar and CODA.
